About the village Lefkara
Lefkara lies in the foothills of Troodos, 35 km from Larnaca, split into Pano (upper) and Kato (lower) Lefkara. Its name means “white hills”, from the local limestone and silica. In the 16th century it was the largest town in Cyprus.
Lace and silver crafts have been practised since Venetian times. In the early 20th century villagers sold lace all over Europe, which paid for the two-storey houses with shops and long balconies you see today.
