About the village Kalavasos
Kalavasos, 40 km south-west of Larnaca, has kept its name through centuries of continuous settlement. It means beautiful wooded valley, and pine, wild olive, broom, rockrose and thyme grow around it.
The Tenta archaeological site shows people lived here in the New Stone Age. From 1938 to 1978 a mining railway carried copper from the Kalavasos mines to the port at Vasiliko.
