About the village Lania
Tradition says Lania was named after Lana, daughter of Dionysus, god of wine, which says a lot about the village’s roots in winemaking. A local legend even claims vines from a house in Lania were used to replant the diseased Champagne vineyards of France.
The villagers once lived from wine, zivania, Commandaria and soutzoukos. Fewer grape growers remain today, but the flower-lined streets, traditional houses and the old fountain at the entrance make Lania one of the most photogenic stops on the B8 road to the mountains.
