About the village Fikardou
Fikardou sits on the north-east slopes of Troodos, about 40 km south-west of Nicosia. Its name may mean “den of fugitives”, or come from the Fikardos family recorded in the 15th century. In medieval times it belonged to the Machairas Monastery.
The Department of Antiquities restored the village to preserve its houses and remarkable woodwork. Two of them, the House of Katsinioros and the House of Achilleas Dimitris, are museums of rural life.
