About the village Askas
Askas sits at the foot of Mount Papoutsa above the Askas river. Its houses were built entirely of local stone, clay and mountain pine, with roof tiles kneaded and baked locally. A date of 1381 found on a door shows it existed in the Frankish era.
The name may come from the landowner Manolis Askas, recorded in 1462. The village makes wine and zivania and grows hazelnuts, walnuts and fruit.
