Visiting Kourion Archaeological Site

Kourion is a hilltop archaeological visit west of Limassol. Start with the theatre and nearby mosaic remains, then extend the visit if the weather and your energy allow. Set your transport for the archaeological entrance, not the beach below.

Theatre and mosaic remains

The restored Greco-Roman theatre is a natural starting point. Nearby, the House of Eustolios preserves mosaics and bath remains; use the visitor information to choose a route through the wider site.

Plan your visit

Start with a manageable circuit

Look at the entrance plan and current area closures before choosing your route. The theatre and nearby mosaics offer a focused first visit; add the wider remains only if time and conditions suit.

Walking and access

The tourism authority describes the site as partly accessible. That does not establish a step-free route to every ruin. Ask about specific areas, and bring water, sun protection and footwear for outdoor surfaces.

Check admission before setting off

Consult the official listing for opening, admission and conservation notices. A performance at the theatre is a separate event with its own arrangements. Do not assume normal sightseeing admission includes it.

Getting there: choose your transport

Bus

EMEL lists routes 16 and 18 to Kourion Beach. That beach destination does not verify access to the hilltop archaeological entrance. Confirm a suitable stop, safe final approach and return service with the operator; choose a taxi transfer if the final approach cannot be established.

Taxi

Request Kourion Archaeological Site’s visitor entrance. Agree the fare and a return pickup, including whether the driver waits. Avoid a generic Kourion request that could be understood as the beach.

Rental car

Follow signs for the archaeological site and its visitor parking. Treat a later beach stop as a separate drive, with separate directions. Check access notices locally and allow walking time beyond the car park.

Questions about your visit

Does the Kourion Beach bus arrive at the ruins?

A beach route is not evidence of a stop at the hilltop archaeological entrance. Confirm the final approach before relying on it.

Can I visit the theatre during a normal site visit?

It is a main feature of the archaeological site, subject to current access arrangements. Performances and special events have separate booking conditions.
