About the village Liopetri

Liopetri is one of the Kokkinochoria, the red-soil villages, and grows pomegranates, figs and above all the famous Cyprus potato. It appears as “Ligopetri” on old maps.

On 2 September 1958, four EOKA fighters from the village fought British troops in a barn that is now a national memorial. The poet Arthur Rimbaud once worked in a quarry at Potamos, the river inlet with its fishing shelter.
