About the village Galata
Galata sits on the Klarios river in the Solea valley, a cool summer escape for Cypriots and famous for its fruit. Its traditional two-storey houses have wooden balconies facing the main road, and it opened its first hotel in 1910.
Demetrios de Coron, an officer of the Lusignan court, built the monastery church of Panagia tis Podithou here in 1502. It is one of the ten UNESCO-listed Painted Churches of Troodos. The 1514 church of Archangel Michael stands 100 metres away.
