Troodos mountains

Troodos Day Trip – Tours, Car Hire or Bus?

The Troodos mountains — Kykkos Monastery, Omodos, the painted churches and Caledonia waterfall — are the one part of Cyprus where the bus network will not get you around in a day. A tour or a hire car is the practical choice.

Why the bus does not work for Troodos

Mountain villages have only occasional rural buses, mostly timed for residents, and no line on this site connects the coast with Troodos for a same-day return. Use the bus to reach a tour pickup point in Limassol or Paphos instead.

Before you book

  • Mountain roads are slow — a tour avoids the driving after a long day.
  • Bring a layer: it can be 10 °C cooler than the coast.
  • Check whether entry to Kykkos Monastery and lunch are included.
  • Winter tours may include snow at Mount Olympus from January to March.

Frequently asked questions

Is there a bus to Troodos?

Only limited rural services that are not designed for a day trip from the coast. A tour with pickup or a hire car is far more practical.

What does a Troodos day tour usually include?

Most combine Kykkos Monastery, a wine village such as Omodos and a mountain stop or waterfall walk. Inclusions vary — read the listing.

Is it better to hire a car for Troodos?

A car gives more freedom if you are confident on narrow, winding roads. A tour is easier if you want to relax or try the local wine.
